First Friday Coffeehouse 10/3/14

From Bob Moore

Musician, poets, leaf peepers, light sleepers, keepers of the light, keepers
of the keys, gardeners worried about the first frost, farmers waiting for
the next full moon:

I hope you all are enjoying the colorful displays this time of year. It is a
treat to behold, and no other place can boast about it (well, they can try)
like New England. We’re gearing up for another coffeehouse this Friday, and
we’re featuring a guitarist, singer/songwriter from the Boston area, Ms.
Licia Sky. Licia has a gorgeous voice, very smooth, kind of smoky, and she
writes heartfelt tunes that are about life’s challenges as well as life’s
possibilities. I met Licia out at Star Island (WITR) several years ago, and
was wowed by her music. She has a gift of writing, and it sounds great when
she works it into a song accompanied by guitar or banjo. See below for more
on Licia’s music, music selections, and personal history.

Licia Sky is an inspired, soulful singer-songwriter, guitarist, and harmonic
vocalist. She teaches/co-creates joyful healing movement, sonic and vocal
attunement experiences for personal and communal harmony. She has an
extensive background in multiple modalities of massage, bodywork, energy
bodywork, yoga and Thai Yoga. She is interested in exploring the
wondrousness of everyday experiences, life passages, and the meta-physical–
through movement, poetry and storytelling–integrating artistic expression
with body awareness and sharing, and co-creating healing spiritual
experiences in performance art.

You can hear her music streaming and find out about upcoming shows at:

First Friday Coffeehouse Aug 1 2014

From Bob Moore

Folk and blues lovers, poets, musicians, folks recovering from inclement weather, others recovering from late nights and early mornings at a summer folk festival (or two), folks using music and poetry for medicinal purposes:

Hope you’re all doing well. Much tumult in the news, the weather is strange, hope it finds its own equilibrium. A lot of unease on the planet as it stands, and here we are, some of us sitting, standing, lying down, looking up, maybe seeing dark clouds, maybe seeing a rainbow after the passing of the dark clouds. “A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall”, if it hasn’t been falling already, so find yourself a shelter to ride out the storms, metaphorical and otherwise, and don’t forget to take a good dose of poetry and music and call me in the morning. In case you need your prescription filled: Here’s an old Little Feat number that might help:

This month, The First Friday Coffeehouse will be held on Friday August 1st. The coffeehouse will be run as an all open-mike coffeehouse this month. It will be held in the Community Room, and will start at 7 PM. Hope you can make it. Donations gratefully accepted. Bring a dessert if you are so willing and able, otherwise just bring yourself.

Come on down, bring a poem or an instrument, and let’s drive away some of the questionable karma with some good vibrations.

Peace and good will,

Bob

First Friday Coffeehouse 4/5/13

Musicians, poets, April foolers, Spring contenders, folks who like to hear the sound of geese a-flying, and the peepers peeping in the vernal pools and warming bogs:

I hope you’all had a good Easter weekend, and your hearts are warming at the slow but steady signs of spring in the air, and on the ground. Our house is well-shaded, and well, it’s still surrounded by several mounds of stubborn snow, but I’ve looked into the depths of my crystalline ball, and the end of the snow melt is near. To let you know, we have a terrific trio featured this coming Friday. I first heard Lizz Ferdina, James Davenport, and Stephen Brough at the Spireside Coffeehouse in Dunbarton, NH last fall. They were opening the coffeehouse as I recall, and their band sound was very intriguing, and well-crafted. They do contemporary ballads, pop and rock tunes, many songs that would be familiar to you, including two and three-part harmony arrangements. Steve and Lizz are on vocals and guitar, and James sings and performs on percussion. They’ll be starting off the coffeehouse this Friday at the usual time, 7:30 PM, and will play for about 40 minutes. A quick bio can be found below. Hope you can make it and experience their sound.

“Steve Brough, James Davenport and Lizz Ferdina are local musicians from south-central New Hampshire who have come together with the common goal of performing their favorite songs. Preferring to perform various styles and tempos, the group plays an eclectic mix of rock, popular ballads and blues. Steve and Lizz play guitar, James plays a variety of percussion instruments and all three sing both lead and harmony parts. The ensemble started their musical collaboration at the Spireside Open Mic in Dunbarton last year and have since been performing regularly at Spireside and at other Open Mic venues.”

So, we’ll see you this Friday, April 5th at 7:30 PM. Open-mike sign-up begins at 6:30 PM, Open-mike begins at 8:30 PM. Donations are welcome. For directions or more information, e-mail: bmoore628@comcast.net, phone: 603-642-4648.

First Friday Coffeehouse

Steve Brennan

 A note from Bob Moore,

Hi musicians, poets, folks that may be a little over-radiated and recovering from the latest solar flare activity:

As some of you know, we had a fine evening of poetry and music in January. It was a good feeling trading various art forms with one another as often happens, and having John Simon finish off the evening as he does with some memorable poems about personal pain, unrequited love, joy, and the myriad of chronic dilemmas that love has to offer (if and when we dare to walk through the door). We’re set to do it again this Friday. As a special treat, we’re bringing back Exeter Music owner, and baritone singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Brennan. Steve has entertained us before in several genres including a duo performance with his co-owner guitarist Rich Bowles. He’s also appeared with an a two-women, two-men a capella group performing familiar songs including The Beatles and Billy Joel in rich four-part harmony. This time around, Steve will be playing solo, and playing songs from his latest CD, A Feeling like That, on 6 and 12-string guitar. Steve has a wry sense of humor, and shares his daily toils and adventures without reservation. Come on down and check him out. For more information about Steve’s music, please visit:
